Photo essay: Renishaw Hall Gardens in Spring

Having visited Renishaw Hall Gardens late last Summer, it was time for a return visit, this time in the Spring. That they also had a plant fair on, just added to the attraction. After perusing the plant stalls, and yes, I did buy some plants, we lunched in their great cafe, out in the sun, then took a stroll around the gardens.
We particularly wanted to visit the bluebell wood, but also to enjoy Spring in other parts of the garden. First up, the bluebell woods. I cannot produce the fragrance of a bluebell wood for you, but hopefully the pictures do some justice to it’s beauty.

Bluebells, as well as wild garlic and Camellias

Then into the formal gardens. Lots of fresh Spring greens, and some bright splashes of colour.

A wonderfully rich colour in this Californian poppy

A wonderful colour contrast between the peony and the tulips

I was pleased with my purchases at the plant fair. These included Iris sibirica ‘Silver Edge’ which I wanted for my Bog Garden. The next plant fair at Renishaw Hall Gardens is on Sunday 10th August. And with the great cafe (good for cake lovers) and splendid gardens and plants to enjoy, I recommend a visit for a happy day out for plant lovers and their friends.

  1. That sounds like the perfect day out, I can't resist a plant fair. The bluebells look spectacular and the handkerchief tree as well. I have one, but I'm still waiting for it to bloom. Next year!
